She was born April 16, 1927, in Queens Village, Long Island, N.Y. Her parents were Tillie, (Ottilie Machovec) and William Arthur Rumph. Lorraine received her High School education in Trumansburg, N.Y. and attended the Binghamton City Nursing program. She married Dr. Francis J. Drazek, DVM on 8/11/47, at Cornell University.
Lorraine assisted Frank with the book keeping for his veterinary business, in Earlville, N.Y. She was a Girl Scout leader, who treated the girls as if they were her own. She loved to encourage them to have new experiences and took her troops on many adventures (i.e. 1964 World’s Fair on Long Island). She and Frank also enjoyed hosting foreign students from Cornell and Colgate. Lorraine was very active in the Earlville Community Development for many years. She worked on creating the village welcome “Small Town USA” sign. Lorraine worked as the Assistant Librarian in Earlville and Dryden, N.Y. She also greatly enjoyed being a freelance and feature story writer, for several newspapers. In 1973 she won the New York State Award, for correspondent of the year, for small newspapers. Lorraine worked as a public liaison for the Dryden Central School in the 1980s. She loved doing crafts and was very involved in the Hobby and Book Clubs in Dryden. Lorraine was always very active in the wives’ veterinary group, was President of the Cornell Women’s Veterinary Auxiliary and enjoyed Red Hats. She was a member of the Alter and Rosary Society at St. Mary’s in Hamilton, for years.
Lorraine had an insatiable love for reading. When she moved into the Katherine Luther Home in Clinton, she soon realized that there wasn’t a library in the facility. She, along with her family and the staff worked together to establish one from donated books (for the residents, their grandchildren and staff).
Surviving are her daughters: Mary Cook (husband Robert) of Earlville, Anne Drazek of Connecticut, and Beth Pine (husband Thomas) of Lansing, N.Y. Her husband Francis (Frank) and son Evan Drazek predeceased her. Her daughter-in-law Theresa Drazek lives in Xenia, Ohio.
Lorraine’s beloved grandchildren are: Dana (Cook) Krueger of Earlville, Justin Cook of Montana, Lindsay Pine, Daniel Pine, Joseph Drazek, and Kristina Drazek. Her loved great-grandchildren are: Reagan and Sam Krueger, Faith and Shelby Drazek.
A mass celebrating her life will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Hamilton, N.Y. on at a later date to be announced. Burial will be following the mass, at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Hamilton.
