William “Jeff” Weinell, 65, of Furman Mills Rd., Sherburne, NY, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, NY.
He was born February 3, 1955 in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Brentwood, LI, a son of the late William “Bill” and Patricia Fitzgerald Weinell. He was a graduate of St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School in Brentwood and SUNY Oneonta with degrees, including Masters, in Economics and Business, Education and Mathematics. He had also taken courses at SUNY Binghamton. Jeff was a jack of all trades, working in several occupations over his lifetime. He was a lecturer at SUNY Oneonta, taught math for a brief time at DCMO B.O.C.E.S. in Norwich as well as Sherburne-Earlville High School and Oxford Academy. He also owned his machinist company, CNJ Machines in Sherburne. He had a marvelous work ethic and always enjoyed keeping busy. His children and grandchildren were his greatest joy and will miss hearing him say when asking how he was, “I’m so good it’s got to be illegal” and “Terrible! I’m old and I’m still not rich.”
Jeff was a communicant of St. Malachy’s Church in Sherburne and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his children, Jonathon (Betsy) Weinell; Matthew (Sophie) Weinell; Carolyn (Adam) Palm; Sarah (Geoff) Pierce; Jeffrey Weinell; Paul (Chelsea) Krieg; Christopher Weinell; Hannah Weinell; Caitlin Weinell; and Meaghan Weinell; brothers, Chris (Lani) Weinell and Tom (Annette) Weinell; 17 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jim and John Weinell.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Malachy’s Church, Sherburne followed by interment in St. Malachy’s Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne on Sunday, November 1, 2020 from 2-4pm.
The rosary will be recited privately prior to calling hours.
Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Malachy’s Church, PO Box 722, Sherburne NY 13460.

We knew and worked with Jeff for a quarter century. There were his years as an undergraduate and then graduate student. Jeff served as the graduate student representative to the Business Advisory Council of what is now the School of Economics and Business. He stayed onboard at SUNY Oneonta as a part-time and then full-time lecturer. Jeff distinguished himself among his students and colleagues as kind, reliable, and immensely hardworking. His years as a college educator changed thousands of lives through classroom instruction and co-curricular activities.

He was friend and a colleague who will be sadly missed. We express our deepest condolences to his family.

I was in Professor Weinells class when he had gotten sick. I appreciated all that he taught us and his funny sayings. Rest in Peace Professor.
