Obituary

EARLVILLE: James W. Sampson, 84, of Thompson Hill Rd., passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019 at home.
He was born March 15, 1935 in Lafayette, IN, a son of John and Nema Webster Sampson. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. and was active in Marine Corps League. James married Hazel Lowe on July 19, 1958 in Los Angeles, CA and she predeceased him on November 15, 2004. For 33 years, James worked as an engineer for Chevron until retiring. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He liked traveling, going to the casino, and having his morning coffee with friends at Judy’s Diner in Sherburne. He was a loving family man whose children and grandchildren were precious to him.
He is survived by a daughter, Vinca Niccum of Tucson; four sons, Ronald of Stockton, CA; James “Randy” (Belinda) of Houston, TX; Richard of Tracy, CA; Robert (Dawn) of Earlville; a sister, Martha (Duane) Martin of Indianapolis, IN, Barbara McGillivray of Sacramento, CA; brother, John (Leslie) of Loleta, CA; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a grandson, Spencer Sampson and brothers, Steve Sampson and Bill Lorenzo.
A celebration of James’ life will be held at the convenience of his family.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral home, 3 Preston St., Earlville.
