David C. Casscles, 72, of East State St., Sherburne, NY, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Syracuse.
He was born February 16, 1947 in Catskill, NY, a son of the late Clifton J. and Dorothy Chamberlain Casscles. He was a graduate of Sherburne-Earlville High School in 1968 and a graduate of the Vale Technical School, in Blairsville, Pennsylvania. On June 23, 1973, David married Elena T. Santa Maria in St. Malachy’s Church, Sherburne, a loving and joyous union of 46 years. David worked for Benedict Motors in Norwich, the Sherburne-Earlville Central School District, and then the Village of Sherburne until retiring on August 29, 2008. He enjoyed collecting and refinishing antique furniture and antique toys as well as going to the Bouckville Antique Days. He loved rock-n-roll music and collected “oldies” for his jukebox. He liked going to car shows with his classic ‘69 Corvette, and, along with his son Jansen, rebuilt a 1965 Ford Mustang from the frame up. He loved going shopping and decorating his home for Halloween and Christmas. Above all, his family, especially his beloved grandchildren were the light of his life.
David was a lifetime member and former Assistant Captain of the Sherburne Fire Department and was also a member and former Captain of the Sherburne Emergency Squad.
Surviving are his wife, Elena; son Jansen (Sarah) Casscles of Sherburne; grandchildren Amelia and Anthony Casscles, Sophie, Shaelan and Colton Ryan, all of Sherburne; sisters, Marcia (Mary Ellen) Casscles of Poughkeepsie; Patricia Chesbro of Alaska; brothers, James (Miriam) Rowan of Michigan; Michael (Sandy) Rowan of Oregon; and Bernadette Stephanowski-Casscles, of Sherburne, who was like a daughter to him. He is also survived by his Dalmatian buddy, Lotsa Spots King George. He was predeceased by his step-mother, Helen Rowan Casscles, and brother-in-law, James Chesbro.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne on Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 1-3pm, followed by a brief service and then a reception at Jansen’s home, 52 E. State St., Sherburne
Contributions in memory of David may be made to the Sherburne Fire Department, PO Box 575, Sherburne, NY 13460.

Elena and Family, Charlie and I are so very sorry to hear of the loss of Dave and are sending all of you our prayers and sympathy. Dave was a great guy and I know he and Charlie had a lot in common with their cars. In fact, Charlie helped Dave work on his Corvette he had years ago. Charlie and Dave had a lot of great times in school together. God Bless Dave and may he rest in peace. God Bless you, Elena, and your family and may you all find the strength to get through losing Dave - he will always be your Guardian Angel. Love and Sympathy, Susie and Charlie Crumb

My fondest memory of Dave was the time he came to Norwich to give me a ride in his Corvette. He loved that car and it was a thrill for me because I always liked Corvettes also. All these years later I now have my own Corvette and think of Dave when I am out for a ride.He was a great friend with a good sense of humor and a love for fast cars.Rest in peace my old friend you will be missed by anyone who was fortunate enough to have called you a friend.
