Obituary

PHYLLIS A. DICKENSON

North Syracuse: Phyllis Ann Dickenson, 88, formerly of West Winfield and Waterville, NY, passed away Wednesday, October 16, at The Cottages Skilled Nursing facility in Cicero after a month of declining health.
Phyllis was born January 1, 1931 in Ilion, the fourth child and only daughter of Frederick and Nellie (Ellen Theresa White) Johnson. She was educated in Ilion and West Winfield. Phyllis married Calvin C. Dickenson on October 15, 1948 in Burlington Flats. Calvin died October 15, 2016, their sixty-eighth wedding anniversary.
Phyllis was a homemaker who nurtured many even after her children were grown. She was a favorite aunt/great aunt of a multitude of nieces and nephews, and two special cousins, who knew she could be counted on for a helping hand, hospitality, and encouragement. She was a farmer’s wife without the farm: actively canning and freezing the crops of large gardens, packaging the meat Cal raised and butchered, and providing the pies for every holiday dinner. Cal and Phyllis were proficient card players, especially enjoying the weekly pinochle matches with neighbors, Red and Joan Zoller. Phyllis enjoyed computer games, staying in touch with family with FaceBook and messaging. She was an avid Yankee fan, especially watching games with son, Bryan, with whom she resided this past year.
Surviving are three children—Bryan Dickenson of North Syracuse (Suzanne of Fulton), Sylvia (Mark) Allnatt of Syracuse, and Judy (Wilmot) Keeler of Redwood; six grandchildren—Daniel (Amy) Keeler, Colin (Heike) Hackett, Ryan Keeler (Hillary Wolfe), Benjamin Keeler, Caleb (Kendell) Ari, and Nathan Allnatt; and great grandchildren—Morgan, Abby, Evan, Aislynn, Andrick, and Adeline.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home (Kloster & Northrop Memorial Chapel), 210 E. Main St., Waterville, followed by interment in the West Exeter Cemetery.
Friends and family are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. There will be a reception at West Exeter Fire Hall following the interment.
Contributions in Phyllis’s memory may be made to the West Exeter Fire Department or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
