Charles Ellory Wellman of Sherburne, NY, passed away on Tuesday April 9, 2019 at home.
Charlie was the son of Legrand Wellman and Alpha Lewis Wellman born on February 8, 1934. He attended Turkey Hill Area District School and Sherburne School on Chapel Street.
On October 14, 1950 he married Rose L Morgan of Earlville. He lived in this area most of his life. He was a farmer, construction worker, self-employed at one time. He and his wife made their home in a camper for 8 years, traveling with his work in Maine, Connecticut, New York and North Carolina. They traveled most of the contiguous states of the US to visit family and friends. They even flew to Alaska when their granddaughter and family lived there. They only missed Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, Nevada. He enjoyed hunting, skeet and trap shooting, fishing, camping and traveling and his family.
He is survived by his wife, 6 children Charles and Malin Wellman, Patricia and Ralph MacBlain, Lucinda and Randy Keyes, Lamott and Kathy Wellman, Ralph (Bummy) and Gina Wellman, John and Sherry Wellman and more than 20 grandkids and over 35 great grandkids.
He was predeceased by his parents, a brother Lewis L Wellman, a sister Helen Lewis, a daughter Christine Bates, a son Thomas Wellman, a grandson Justin Allen Wellman, a great grandson Wesley Leight.
There will be no funeral. He will be laid to rest in Graham Cemetery at Hubbardsville with his parents and many generations of family. A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Chenango County Hospice.
He always had a joking attitude even in his last years. When he was diagnosed with dementia and failing, he was admitted to Hospice. He will be missed.

Many broken hearts. Always made me laugh. Many of Grandpa Charlie’s sayings are regularly repeated along with a laugh in my house. Such a wise man and hard worker. Comforted by the thought that he is taking a nap. When he wakes up, he will be all better. We will be able to enjoy life as it is meant to be, together, with Grandpa Charlie.
