Evan T. Williams, 62, of County Rd. 13, South Otselic, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 15, 2019 at his home.
He was born August 29, 1956 in Oneida, NY, a son of George W. and Alma Perry Williams and was a graduate of Otselic Valley High School. On September 24, 1977, Evan married Deborah Taylor in Peterboro, a loving reunion for over 41 years. Evan had worked for the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation at the Pharsalia and Georgetown minimum security prisons from 1982 until retiring in 2010. He served on the Otselic Valley School Board of Education for five years and was the Supervisor for the Town of Otselic for three terms. He enjoyed woodworking and made many picnic tables and Adirondack chairs for friends and family. He spent many years turning logs into lumber starting at his father’s sawmill and then owning his own sawmill that he ran with his sons. He took pride in knowing that many people in the valley were able to use his lumber to build their homes, barns, wagons, or fences. Evan always put family first and would do anything for any one of them. A pillar of the community, he was a proud grandfather and a loving friend, neighbor, brother, father, and husband.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Deborah; his daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Ted Evans of Atlanta, GA; his son and daughter-in-law, Dana and Courtney Williams of Greene; his son, Corey Williams of Oswego; his son, Matthew Williams of S. Otselic; sister and brother-in-law, Charlene and James Koerts of Jacksonville, FL; sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Robert Neal of Hamilton; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Linda Williams of Georgetown; a granddaughter, Natalie Williams; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Eileen Williams.
Memorial services will be held at 1pm Thursday, March 21, 2019 at the South Otselic United Methodist Church, 102 Clarence Church Hill Rd., S. Otselic.
Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery, South Otselic at a later date.
Friends are invited to call at the church from 11am to 1pm prior to the service.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the S. Otselic Methodist Church, PO Box 47, S. Otselic, NY 13155
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 3 Preston St., Earlville, NY.
