Emma Ruane (Bartlett)
Emma Jane "Dottie" Ruane, 91, of Stafford Ave., Waterville, NY, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the Waterville Residential Center..
She was born May 23, 1926 in Waterville, a daughter of Walter T. and Nellie C. Jackson Bartlett and was a graduate of Waterville High School in 1944. On November 16, 1946, Emma Jane married Edward J. "Inchie" Ruane at St. Bernard's Church in Waterville. He predeceased her on April 30, 2009. Dottie worked at the Homestead Savings and Loan as a teller, manager, and then Vice President until retiring.
She was a communicant of St. Bernard's Church, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and the Scripture Sharing Group. Dottie was a dedicated member of her community, where she had been active in many organizations. She was a charter member of the Waterville Firemen's Auxiliary; a member of the Clifford J. Fulmer American Legion Post #92 Auxiliary of Sangerfield, the Waterville Historical Society, the Waterville Women's Club, the Chenango Water Exercise Group in Hamilton, a volunteer for the COVALT reading program and was a Girl Scout leader for forty years. She was also honored by the Waterville Rotary Club with the "Roses for the Living" for her years of community service.
Surviving are three children, John (Darcey) Ruane of Waterville; Colleen (Nick) Palmer of Selkirk, NY; and Mark (Sue) Ruane of Waterville; two sisters, Patricia Cowen of Newark, DE and Connie Vining of Rochester, NY; a brother, Walter (Faye) Bartlett, Jr. of Marilla, NY; a sister-in-law, Mary Woodhouse of Waterville; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her :family of friends" at the Waterville Schoolhouse Apartments.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Monday, April 30, 2018 at St. Bernard's Church, 199 Stafford Ave., Waterville, followed by interment in St. Bernard's Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home (Kloster & Northrop Memorial Chapel) 210 E. Main St., Waterville on Sunday from 5-8pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Bernard's Church, or to the James Reilly Memorial Award, c/o Waterville Central School, 381 Madison St., Waterville, NY 13480.
