Clifford "Bud" McLaughlin Jr.
Clifford J. “Bud” McLaughlin, Jr., 88, of Bogan Rd., Waterville, NY, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the Siegenthaler Center in New Hartford, NY.
He was born February 8, 1930 in Waterville, a son of Clifford, Sr. and Ethel Silver McLaughlin. He was a graduate of Waterville High School and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. On December 27, 1951, Clifford married Joan M. Best in Waterville. She predeceased him on April 15, 2011. Bud, along with his father and brother, Spencer, began a family business in 1955 known as McLaughlin’s Department Store, opening several locations in the Central New York area. Bud retired from the Waterville store.
He was a communicant of St. Bernard’s Church in Waterville. He was the oldest member of the Clifford J. Fulmer American Legion Post #92 of Sangerfield and a former member of the Waterville Rotary Club. Clifford had also served on the Fleet Bank Board of Directors. His favorite hobby was playing golf.
Surviving are his children, Diane and David Clapp of Waterville; Mike and Janet McLaughlin of Whitesboro; and Brian McLaughlin of Wellsville, NY; grandchildren, Colby Clapp and his fiancée, Erin O’Connor; Colleen McLaughlin; Jaclyn McLaughlin and her fiancé, Derek Farley; Matthew and Jaclyn McLaughlin; Scott and Bradley McLaughlin; great grandsons, Nolan and Reagan; sister s and brothers-in-law, Joan and Carter Stevenson of Waterville; Jeanette and Robert McCredy of South Carolina; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Spencer, and sisters, Beverly “Betty” Doyle and Arlean McLaughlin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1pm Saturday, March 3, 2018 at St. Bernard’s Church, 199 Stafford Ave., Waterville, NY.
Interment with military honors will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery at a later date.
There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Siegenthaler Center, c/o Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY 13413.
