Obituary for Thomas Bogan
Thomas J. Bogan, 75, of Bogan Rd., Waterville, NY, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Utica, surrounded by his loving Family.
He was born January 31, 1942 in Utica, a son of Francis “Doc” and Dorothy Head Bogan. He was raised on The Family Farm in Waterville and was a graduate of Waterville High School. On May 27, 1967, He married Sally Gibbons at St. Bernard’s Church in Waterville. He began working on the family farm at a young age and it was there, in those iconic early days, that he would develop the strong work ethic and love of the land that would become the hallmarks of his life. He then went on to work at Agway, Inc., Waterville, Wickes Lumber, Sangerfield, and at Lowe’s in Utica as a retail manager until his retirement.
Thomas was a member of St. Bernard’s Church in Waterville; the Waterville Historical Society, and he also served as the Waterville Village Justice. He was a true outdoorsman and conservationist who enjoyed gardening, the planting of trees, and any outdoor activity that would give him the opportunity to use “Old Nellie” his 1941 Farmall tractor. If you ever saw Tom atop his tractor you would've seen the unmistakable pride and joy that was evoked in him by this lovingly kept artifact from a gentler time. He also enjoyed woodworking and carpentry, trying his hand at several projects throughout his life, the greatest of which was, when, with the help of Friends and Family, He was able to realize a lifelong dream by building his own home on the family property. He so loved interactions with his Grandchildren, frolicking across the property and gaining special enjoyment when their excitement and curiousity regarding the wonders of our world would eclipse even his own. He was above all, A Loving Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Friend. His kindness was sincere and his desire was to leave a legacy of love. Those of us who knew him are all the better for it.
Surviving are his 3 children, Daughter, Bridget Demar of New Paltz; Son, Sean “Andy” Bogan and his Wife, Heidi, and Son, John Bogan, all of Waterville; grandchildren, Maxmillion Demar and Jonah Demar of New Paltz; and Shannon Bogan of Waterville; the mother of his children, Sally Bogan of Waterville; a sister Claire Abrams and Charlie Wilcox of Waterville; a brother, James “Jim” Bogan of Waterville; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and a brother, Donald Bogan.
A Prayer Service will be held at 10:30 am Monday, July 3, 2017 from the Kloster & Northrop Memorial Chapel at Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville, followed at 11:00 am by the celebration of a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernard’s Church, 199 Stafford Ave. Waterville, with interment in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.

The family would like to give a special thanks to The Staff at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center for their kindness and compassion and to all the friends who helped him during this trying time, their efforts cannot be sufficiently rewarded but they will never be forgotten. His family requests that those wishing to honor his memory should find a good spot and plant a tree.
