George D. Cushman
George D. Cushman, 85, of Waterville, NY, passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Utica.
He was born in Utica on June 29, 1931 a son of the late Norman L. and Grace (Luck) Cushman and received his education in local schools. On November 8, 1958 in Waterville he was united in marriage to the former Alice LaValley. Mrs. Cushman predeceased him on December 21, 2015. Mr. Cushman worked for the Wilbert Burial Vault Co., Utica for many years. He later worked for the Cherry Valley Oil Co. and Louis J. Gale & Son, Waterville until his retirement.
He was a former member of the Waterville Baptist Church. He was a train and antique car enthusiast. George loved the outdoors and being in the sunshine. He could often be found in his garden working, caring for his fish pond or enjoying the birds, especially the hummingbirds, or just sitting on his bench in the yard.
Surviving are his children, Timothy Cushman; Judy Simmons; Eva and Leslie Hoke; David Cushman and Viola Erb and Crystal Cushman all of Waterville; two sisters, Ardeen Cushman of FL; Carol Abrial of Utica; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Norman and Patricia Cushman of Waterville; Alan Cushman of NC; eleven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and his favorite pet cat Lily. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Terri Cushman; three sisters, Lily LaValley; Elaine Cushman and Audrey Martin.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 11:00 AM from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home (Kloster & Northrop Memorial Chapel), 210 East Main St., Waterville, NY 13480. Interment will be held in the Fairview Cemetery, Bridgewater.
Friends are invited and may call on Monday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.
Contributions in Mr. Cushman’s memory may be made to the Adirondack Scenic Railroad, 2568 NY-28 Thendara, NY 13472
